When it comes to wedding planning, couples often ask: “Do we really need a DJ?”Our honest answer? Yes, it's preferred.

A good DJ is more than someone who presses play, they set the tone for your entire celebration.

Why a DJ (and MC) Matters

A professional DJ doesn’t just read the room and play the right music to get people on the dance floor, they also act as your MC (Master of Ceremonies). This role is often overlooked but so important.

Your MC is the voice of your event: they guide your guests through the evening, make announcements, introduce speeches, and keep the energy high. Guests want to feel included, and an MC creates that connection between what’s happening and who it’s happening for...you!

When couples skip the DJ and go for a playlist instead, it can leave guests feeling a bit lost. No one’s there to rally the crowd for dinner, announce the first dance, or build the anticipation before the dance floor opens.

The Guest Experience

We always remind our couples: your wedding isn’t just about the schedule, it’s about the experience. And that includes your guests.

Music sets the mood from the very first song at cocktail hour to the last dance of the night. A good DJ keeps that flow seamless, so the room stays alive, people stay engaged, and every moment feels intentional.

Choosing the Right DJ

Not all DJs are created equal. We recommend doing your research: read reviews, ask for references, and make sure they can play to every generation. A skilled DJ will know when to drop a classic that gets everyone dancing (yes, even your uncle), and when to slow it down for a moment that brings everyone together.

Ceremony Music - Who Presses Play?

If you don’t hire a DJ, someone still has to handle the music for your ceremony. That often falls to a friend, family member, or even your wedding planner.

While we can help cue songs for the ceremony, our focus in that moment is making sure you and your wedding party walk down the aisle smoothly and on time. Balancing both roles isn’t ideal...one small distraction can throw off timing or transitions!

Our Advice

Your DJ or live musician is more than just entertainment, they’re an essential part of how your day feels. They keep things running, keep guests engaged, and bring the energy that turns a beautiful event into a true celebration.

So, can you skip the DJ? Sure. But if you want your wedding to flow, to feel alive, and to have your guests talking about it for years...hire the DJ.

Happy planning,
